gTEX data download for Azure user

Hello all.

I am aware the default terra gtex download is from google cloud. My institution though provides Microsoft Azure, not Google Cloud, so I am unable to create a Google billing project to download data.

I would like to know if GTEX data are downloadable on Azure and want to confirm the correct workflow for working with the GTEx data in an Azure environment.

  1. Make a new Terra workspace link my Azure subscription.
  2. Once the workspace is set up, navigate to the AnVIL Data Library to export the GTEx dataset to this new Azure-based workspace.
  3. From there, download, with all compute and storage costs being charged to my Azure account.

Does this workflow accurately describe the process for an Azure user?

Best,

Minsu

Hi @Minsu_Cho ,

While it is possible to have your Terra/AnVIL ID associated with a Microsoft login, the underlying infrastructure is based on Google Cloud Storage only. We do not offer support for Azure at this time.

You will need a Google billing project in order to download the data and upload it to Azure.

Cheers,
