Request for Guidance on Accessing GTEx v9 Long-Read Data as an Unaffiliated Researcher

Dear AnVIL Support Team,

I am writing to kindly ask for guidance regarding access to the GTEx v9 long-read data available through the AnVIL workspace:

I am currently an unaffiliated researcher based in Bangladesh and am working on transcript-level variation and expression analysis of candidate genes in human brain tissues. I would like to use the GTEx v9 long-read data for this research.

Could you please advise me on the appropriate procedure for obtaining access as an unaffiliated researcher, and whether there are any specific requirements or permissions I need to complete?

I would be very grateful for your guidance.

Best regards,

Sharmin Aktar

Hi @Sharmin_Aktar ,

Thanks for your question!

Apologies for the delay responding: we wanted to confirm there were no exceptions to the current policy. We know many researchers outside the U.S. may not have the option of an institutional email.

According to current policy, accessing Controlled Access Data Repositories (CADRs) requires CADR-compliant email addresses, including:

  • NIH-issued email addresses
  • Federal government email addresses
  • University, research institution, hospital, or employer-issued email addresses
  • Email addresses from approved InCommon Federation member organizations

The following email addresses are not permitted to access CADRs:

  • Personal email accounts from free email providers (such as Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook.com, Hotmail, etc.) and other prohibited domains identified by NIH
  • Email domains from countries of concern as identified by the US Department of Justice

Public datasets can still be accessed with personal email accounts, such as Gmail, although it may limit some features (such as export from AnVIL Data Explorer).

Thanks!
Ava
